Fire force episode112/4/2023 ![]() We start the show with a coincidental meeting between out main character, Shinra the main supporting characters, the Special Fire Force Company 8 and an Infernal. ![]() I think it might have fit better on the setting shot, before or after the main title is shown…but that’s just me nitpicking. I do wish the “Solar Year 198, Tokyo, Kita-Ku” bit was after the spark instead of before, because it’s such a quick, understated detail that I immediately forgot it after the spark caught my attention. ![]() I really like how Fire Force starts with a simple spark animation, which builds into a larger flame and transitions to a setting shot–it’s a subtle flaunt of the animation, the detailed sound effects, and, of course, the main subject of the show. Most animes start like Fire Force, with a small segment to pique interest before the OP. After all, not all anime is based on a manga–but a lot of it is, and Fire Force is one such adaptation. I’ve already written a whole post on Fire Force‘s visual style, but of course there’s much more to the show than that! The first episode of a series is essential–it introduces the characters and tone of the story, as well as revealing elements new even to manga readers, such as the OP and ED (opening song/credits and ending songs/credits, respectively), general sound design, and often stylistic choices that depart from manga, when applicable. Am I behind the curve writing this now, three weeks after the episode aired? Absolutely.
